Winter Wardrobe Refresh: How to Organize Your Closet and Get Ready for Cozy Season

November 30, 2011

woman-organizing-closet

I can’t believe tomorrow’s already December — my, how time flies!

It feels like just yesterday we were soaking up the summer sun, and now the air is crisp, the days are shorter, and the first hints of snow are just around the corner.

With winter fast approaching, it’s time to do one of my favorite seasonal rituals — swapping out the wardrobe. Our walk-in closet can only fit two seasons’ worth of clothes for my husband, baby, and me, so we keep the off-season ones packed away.

Step 1: Declutter Before You Store

Before packing away our summer clothes, I always take a few minutes to sort and declutter. If something hasn’t been worn in a while or no longer fits, it goes straight into the donation box. It’s a simple way to keep our closet fresh — and it feels good knowing those clothes will get a second life elsewhere.

For the rest of our summer outfits — those light dresses, shorts, and swimsuits — I use old suitcases or vacuum-sealed bags. They save a ton of space and protect fabrics from dust and moisture.

💡 Pro Tip: Label each bag clearly (like “Summer”) so you can find everything easily next year!

Step 2: Bring Out the Cozy Layers

Winter is the best season for layering and playing with textures. I love pulling out our warm coats, scarves, and, of course, boots.

Speaking of boots — I’m especially excited to wear the women’s leather boots my husband gave me for my birthday earlier this year. They’re warm, stylish, and make me feel instantly put-together, even on lazy days.

👢 Quick Winter Fashion Tips:

  • Invest in quality outerwear. A good wool coat or puffer jacket is worth it.
  • Keep your feet warm. Lined or waterproof boots are perfect for snowy days.
  • Accessorize smartly. Scarves, beanies, and gloves can completely transform your outfit.
  • Layer like a pro. Thin thermal tops under sweaters keep you warm without bulk.

Step 3: Store Smart for the Season

Once the wardrobe swap is done, I like to freshen up the closet.
A quick wipe-down, a few cedar blocks or lavender sachets, and a couple of moisture absorbers go a long way in keeping clothes fresh and moth-free.

🧺 Storage Tip: If you live in a humid area, add hanging dehumidifiers or silica gel packs to your closet for extra protection.

Step 4: Embrace the Cozy Season

There’s something incredibly satisfying about this seasonal refresh. It’s like setting the stage for cozy nights in, hot cocoa, and maybe even a few snowball fights.

So here’s to embracing the chill, wrapping up in soft layers, and stepping into the season with your favorite boots on. ❄️👢

Movie Time: Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides

November 28, 2011

pirates-of-the-carribean

Aside from Netflix, we also have an account at Blockbuster and recently, we borrowed the DVD of the movie Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides.

This movie is a continuation of the Pirates of the Carribean series. This time, the quest is for the fountain of youth. Most of the characters from the previous Pirates of the Carribean stories are back like Johnny Depp’s character Captain Jack Sparrow (of course) and Captain Barbosa but there are new additions to the story like the mermaid and Penelope Cruz as Sparrow’s old flame.

If you want a believable story-line, this movie isn’t for you. But if you enjoy watching adventure-fantasy movies, for sure you’ll be immensely entertained by this movie especially with Jack Sparrow’s funny antics.

I rate this 4/5. I’m not much a fan of this type of movies but I liked watching this.

My Wishlist: Nikon DSLR Camera

November 19, 2011

woman-dslr-cameraAlright, I’m not planning to buy all the items in this list. These are just the digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera from Nikon that I am currently looking at. I also have a list of DSLR camera from Canon but I’ll blog about it later.

If you own any of these, I’ll very much appreciate your feedback because it will help me a lot in making the choice.

Choice # 1:

Nikon D3000 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens. This is currently sold at Amazon for $449.95.

Choice # 2:

Nikon D3100 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens. This is currently sold at Amazon for $549.

Choice # 3:

Nikon D5100 16.2MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens. This is currently sold at Amazon for $749.

I am just an amateur photographer but I’d like to learn how to shoot professional quality images – and having the right tool will make it easier for me to explore my “photography talents” (if there are any).

I already saved enough for this (and with Black Friday approaching, I’m hoping to get better deals on these DSLRs) – I just need my hubby’s go signal because for him, buying a DSLR when we already have a Sony videocam is kinda impractical. I want him to agree with my decision so as to avoid any conflict in the future.

Do you own a DSLR? Care to share your opinions, advice and tips on buying the right DSLR??

What To Bring To The Hospital During Your Delivery Day

November 17, 2011

pregnant-womanI have a friend who’s expected to give birth next month. If someone you know or you are also giving birth soon, here are some tips that I’d like to share with you about what to bring to the hospital during the big day.

First, make sure that you prepare your bag in advance. Packing the things that you’ll need during the big day (of you giving birth to your baby) is a no-no because with those painful contractions, it’s more likely that you’ll forget a lot of things.

Here are some stuff that you should consider preparing before-hand:

  • Clothing for your baby including socks and mittens
  • Insurance card
  • “Who to Call” list
  • Camera and video camera
  • A baby book for recording important details
  • A favorite pillow
  • A hair clip or scrunchie
  • Sugarless candies or lollipops to keep your mouth moist
  • Snacks for your husband so that he doesn’t have to leave your side to find something to eat
  • Toothbrush, toothpast and mouthwash
  • Hair comb, brush and hair dryer
  • Makeup and other beauty supplies
  • Extra absorbent maxi pads
  • A nursing bra
  • Nightgown or PJs, socks and slippers
  • Comfortable going home outfit
  • Going-home outfit for baby including a receiving blanket
  • Rear-facing infant car seat (installed in advance)

Have a safe delivery.

Movie Time: Avatar

November 15, 2011

Avatar movie

Avatar

Today, I had a chance to watch Avatar on DVD.

Avatar was released in 2009 but it was only this afternoon that I got interested in watching it (yeah, yeah, I know!). It was directed and written by James Cameron and its cast include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Sigourney Weaver, Joel David Moore and Giovanni Ribisi.

Avatar is a science fiction movie about a paraplegic marine who was dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission. He later faced this dilemma of choosing between following his orders and protecting the world that he now feels as his home.

This movie has superb visual effects and it’s no wonder why as of November 14, 2011, it is still the highest-grossing film worldwide. It’s story is unique, well-planned and well-executed. The film’s message is also deep – it shows how capitalism, imperialism and militarism can disrupt the harmony in nature.

I would give this movie a rating of 5/5. Definitely worth watching all over again.

The Puto Cheese Recipe Success

October 14, 2011

Seems like the puto cheese recipe that I published in my other blog is a success.

puto cheese

Yummy Puto Cheese

Everytime I use that recipe, everybody, young and old, likes it.

Today, my husband and his tennis buddies had a barbeque party at the park. I prepared some puto cheese as our contribution and was so glad to hear raving reviews. Two of my husband’s buddies even placed an order for their parties next month.

T’was flattering to hear those nice words. I’m not really good in cooking so my confidence is not really high in that category.

Anyway, if you’d like to try that recipe, here’s a tip – add 2 tablespoons of of sugar to the dry ingredients.

Regards everyone!
