Is Your Small Business Really Prepared for an Emergency?

be-prepare-notepadAll small business owners have a lot to think about, worry about, and plan for, from dealing with their customers to their suppliers, employees, and the changing circumstances of the market itself. However, it is key that all small business owners take the time to ensure that they are prepared for emergencies. Are you ready to deal with the possibilities that await you?

Once you accept the sad fact of life that emergencies and problems will come up inevitably, you can start to make a plan to deal with that fact and the things that will happen because of it. You must also take practical steps to make sure that your workplace is secure from typical, common threats like fires and rainstorms.

Fire

Make certain that you have a quality fire system and get a fire suppression system inspection California to certify that it is up-to-date and in good working condition. You should all practice fire drills with your employees on a regular basis. Ensure that all your employees know what they should do in case of a fire, whether it is a small one that they can put out with a fire extinguisher or a bigger problem that warrants a call to the fire department. Practice these routines a couple of times each year so that all new employees are aware of them.

Natural Disasters

Next, think about the different kinds of natural disasters in your area. Are you prepared in case of an earthquake, which can affect pretty much any place in the world but is also much more common on certain fault lines? Do you have policies and procedures in place to deal with sudden snowstorms?

Other Emergencies

Finally, be ready for any kind of medical emergency that could occur. Keep a list of medications and allergies on hand for all of your employees in case they have a medical problem. Ascertain that everyone knows the emergency numbers to call, too.
