Home and Family from a SAHWM's Perspective

My DJ Neighbor

April 13, 2014

Our neighbors recently bought those DJ controller stuff for their music room. Their son, Josh, wants to become a DJ and I appreciate the fact that they are supporting their son all the way. It might not be the best best dj equipment but I can see that Josh likes it a lot.

We went to their house last Sunday for a barbeque party and Josh showed us his tricks. He was practicing for a wedding DJ in Wilmington gig and, my, what a show it was. Makes me want to become a DJ someday too. LOL, just a wishful thinking.

Witty Kid

March 23, 2014

While having breakfast this morning, my four year old daughter was talking to her dad.

Georyl: How do spell hug?
Daddy: H-U-G, hug.
Georyl: How about fog?
Daddy: F-O-G, fog.
Georyl: They rhyme.
Mommy: What do you mean by rhyme?
Georyl: I don’t know.
Mommy: It means, they have similar sounds.
Georyl: RIGHT Similar. (to daddy) What is similar???

Rellenong Bangus Recipe

Rellenong bangus (stuffed milkfish) is a Filipino classic favorite. This dish is rich in Vitamin B12 which is known to help prevent anemia.

  • 1/2 tsp iodized fine salt (or 1 1/2 tsp iodized rock salt)
  • 1/4 cup flour

Procedure for Cooking Rellenong Bangus

  1. After cleaning the fish, remove the fish meat through the head (vendors may be able to do this for free in wet markets).
  2. Marinate skin and flesh of bangus in calamansi juice, soy sauce and pepper for 30 minutes.
  3. Simmer fish meat in water for 5 minutes. Drain.
  4. Remove bones and flake meat. Set aside.
  5. Sauté garlic, onion and carrot.
  6. Add green peas, raisins, tomato sauce and fish meat. Season with salt.
  7. Cook while stirring for 5 minutes.
  8. Let it cool and then stir in the egg.
  9. Drain bangus skin.
  10. Divide sautéed mixture into three portions and stuff each bangus with sautéed mixture.
  11. Sprinkle fish with or roll it in flour, then fry over medium heat until brown.
  12. Slice each bangus into three parts and serve with ketchup.

New Year, New Design, New Direction

February 7, 2014

This is it!

When I wrote about my plans for this blog, I envisioned a more personal blog. I wanted something where I can share my thoughts, passions, daily drama, faith, knowledge and experiences – just like in a journal.

When I started blogging, it was all about having an online diary or journal of some sort but through the years, “blogging” has evolved into many things. Now, blogging can serve as a discussion or informational site, online brand advertising and even a source of livelihood. – YES, you can earn from blogging.

I will not lie, I earn from blogging. It’s not my bread and butter, it’s not even a stable source of income if you ask me but despite of being jobless after I got married more than 5 years ago, I was able to buy the things that I want (I particularly love techie gadgets), splurge on some stuff from time to time and still have savings in my bank account – all from blogging.

However, all those years of writing for advertisers has left me jaded. Who won’t be when all you have to think of every time you start writing is how to create an article where you need to input a certain word or phrase? I cannot complain since I like the idea that I earn from this hobby in the comfort of my home at my own sweet time (unless there is deadline to beat, of course) but I had lost passion in writing because of it.

After I finished doing our family blog’s redesign, I know I had to do something with this blog’s look, too. I wanted something that would inspire me to write – and this new minimalistic design reminds me of my first blog – a simple online journal.

I can finally say that I already know to which direction I want to go forward with this blog. Will you join me in my journey?

Motherhood Quotes

February 6, 2014

“In a child’s eyes, a mother is a goddess. She can be glorious or terrible, benevolent or filled with wrath, but she commands love either way. I am convinced that this is the greatest power in the universe.”
