Movie Time: My Fake Fiance

May 16, 2015

My Fake Fiance movieI signed up for Netflix yesterday and been on a movie-watching mode since yesterday. The first film that I watched during my Netflix subscription is the TV film from the ABC family channel entitled My Fake Fiance.

My Fake Fiance is a feel-good romantic comedy movie that was released in April 19, 2009. It belongs to the genre that I love: romance-comedy.

Unlike other feel-good movies, My Fake Fiance doesn’t give an illusion that people are perfect – and they showed the story of two people with lots of character flaws falling in love despite the negative things they know about each other.

The story is about a woman named Jennifer (played by Melissa Joan Hart) who planned to have a fake wedding for the sake of getting the wedding gifts because her stuff got stolen and a guy named Vince (played by Joey Lawrence) who is in deep trouble because of his gambling problems. He agreed to a fake marriage to Jennifer because he needs the money that he’ll receive as wedding gifts to pay off his loan from a loan shark named, “The Monkey.”

I liked the film because it made me laugh, smile and cry while watching it – and the plot is realistic and a bit unique. I am giving this movie a rating of 5 out of 5. If you’re not into romance comedy genre, you should take score that with a pinch of salt though.

Anyway, gotta go now as I still have to look for a sliding rack online. Have a great day!

10+ Ways to Be a Great Parent

April 9, 2015

10-ways-to-be-a-great-parent
Parenting doesn’t come with a manual (although, as some say, the Bible offers plenty of timeless wisdom on raising children—but I digress). None of us are born knowing exactly how to be great parents. The good news is that we can learn from others’ experiences and give ourselves a head start as we build our own families.

The following tips were originally shared in a pamphlet distributed by Positive Promotions, and I found them so valuable that I wanted to pass them along to you.

10 Tried-and-True Ways to Be a Great Parent

  1. Be a good role model. Children learn more from what we do than what we say.
  2. Show respect for your child’s feelings, thoughts, and suggestions. Listening validates them.
  3. Make your child feel loved—through your words, praise, hugs, and kisses.
  4. Keep your word. If you have to break a promise, apologize and make it right.
  5. Encourage creativity. Ask questions that spark imagination and curiosity.
  6. Build self-esteem. Recognize genuine effort, not just achievement.
  7. Stay involved. Know what’s happening in your child’s world—at school, with friends, and online.
  8. Discipline with love. Be fair and firm, focusing on behavior rather than labeling the child.
  9. Create family traditions. Shared rituals and fun moments build strong bonds.
  10. Think positively. Expect the best from yourself and your child; optimism fuels resilience and growth.

A Few More Ideas to Consider

  1. Practice patience. Every child grows and learns at their own pace—progress takes time.
  2. Model healthy communication. Show how to express emotions calmly and respectfully.
  3. Encourage independence. Let your child make age-appropriate choices to build confidence.
  4. Take care of yourself. A rested, supported parent is a better parent.
  5. Laugh often. Humor relieves stress and reminds everyone that family life can be fun.

Parenting is a lifelong journey—sometimes challenging, often messy, but always meaningful.

What other tips would you add to this list? Share your thoughts in the comments below—I’d love to hear them.

Have a wonderful day!

DIY Kitchen Renovation: Do the Job Right

February 3, 2015

kitchen

Are you ready for a kitchen renovation?

Several issues can spring up when people try DIY kitchen renovation methods. It can be done, but the average person is not aware of which mistakes can present problems down the road. For instance, many people do not measure things correctly or lay down tile in the right way. The average person is not aware that walls are not perfectly straight or that flooring can warp. That changes the starting point tile is put down or can indicate water damage.

People not only need to measure things correctly, but also the proper materials and the proper tools need to be used to do a job right. Certain tile can be cut using a tile cutter; however, other types need a wet saw. This is something an experienced homeowner or professional would know. There is a lot to consider when thinking of remodeling. Things need to be measured correctly. The right materials need to be used to do the job right. In addition, it is not always a good idea to gut the kitchen in totality. Sometimes, cabinets can be given new life by staining them a different color and changing out the handles.

Whatever kitchen renovation ideas that people decide to do with their kitchens, it is best to be informed about what is best for their homes. For instance, kitchen with adequate natural lighting can afford to use darker colors. A recent trend in kitchens is using layered lighting. Having a consultation with professionals can provide excellent ideas, a reasonable expectation of costs, and a time-frame of how quickly it can be done.

10 Tips for Positive Discipline

January 11, 2015

familyThe other day, someone gave me this leaflet about positive discipline. I would like to share these tips with you since I think that they are very helpful. I do not claim credit for this information and tips.

  1. Show respect, and focus i the behavior, not the child.
  2. Be firm, fair, and consistent. Discipline with love.
  3. Never use physical punishment. It teaches children that violence is OK.
  4. Fit the consequences to the behavior. For example, if your child paints on the wall, the punishment should be to clean it off.
  5. Act as soon as possible so your child associates misbehavior with their consequences.
  6. If you are very upset, cool down before you use discipline.
  7. Try “time-outs.” This allows younger children to think about their actions. The best place for a time-out is an area that isn’t pleasurable for the child.
  8. Keep in mind that no one is perfect. We all make mistakes.
  9. Decide what behaviors you must take a stand on and which you can be more flexible about.
  10. Give praise often for your child’s positive actions and qualities. This will encourage your child to continue the behavior you want.

Vacation at Thanksgiving Day!

November 27, 2014

Hello everyone! How is your Thanksgiving Day celebration?

This year, we did something different for thanksgiving. Our family and my sister-in-law’s family went on a vacation, driving from state to state (from Nevada to Indiana) to celebrate Thanksgiving Day with hubby’s aunt in Crawfordsville. Needless to say, we are having a great time this thanksgiving day with our extended family here in the beautiful city of Crawfordsville.

I remember how hubby and I went driving in Europe some time ago. We had fun visiting different places, just armed with our blue passport (you can enter the Schengen area without visa if you have a U.S. passport) and a GPS navigator. During that time, we barely know any language aside from English so there were times that I wished we had somebody from a translation company to help us translate what we wanted to say.

Anyway, we plan to go back to Nevada tomorrow. It is going to be another long drive home. Even though it is so tiring, all these experience is all worth it. Not only did we get the chance to celebrate Thanksgiving Day with our families and relatives, we get to travel and visit other places as well.

Wishing you all a happy Thanksgiving Day! Enjoy and have fun everyone!

Is it the Flu?

November 11, 2014

It is important to know the difference between flu and cold symptoms. Although both are respiratory illnesses, the cold is milder than the flu. The first can make you feel bad for a few days, while the later can take longer and can even result in serious health problems such as pneumonia and hospitalizations.

flu symptoms

Don’t forget to check for the symptoms. Most flu symptoms gradually improve over two to five days but some can result to serious problems if left unchecked.
